Celebrex® (Celecoxib) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used to treat various mental/mood conditions including depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder (MDD), and other depression-related conditions. Half of all prescriptions for SSRIs are for cancer drugs. SSRIs are typically contraindicated in patients with a history of major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, or other mental/mood disorders, due to the increased risk of suicidal thoughts/attempts and increased risk of suicide. SSRIs are typically not indicated for the treatment of depression/major depressive disorder (MDD), as they do not increase serotonin levels and cannot be used in conjunction with antidepressants for depression treatment.Celecoxib is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) used to treat certain types of estrogen-dependent tumors. The most common side effects of oral estrogen include hot flashes, night sweats, nausea, vaginal discharge, and bone loss. In some cases, it may also cause bone loss, including osteoporosis. This medication does not have any interactions with other medications you may be taking, so it is not suitable for you to use if you are taking oral estrogen for a variety of conditions including cancer treatment, or if you have a history of estrogen-dependent tumors.Celecoxib may interfere with certain laboratory test results, possibly affecting how the test is conducted. This can include abnormal levels of certain chemicals in the blood, such as estrogens, which are produced in the ovaries. POMP celecoxib (Celebrex) was the first oral prescription medicine that was approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration to treat arthritis in men in the second half of the 20th century. The drug is marketed by Pfizer as Advil, the first non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which in the 1950s was the first of a new generation of drugs to treat pain in the joints. By the early 1990s, celecoxib sales had reached $1 billion a year.
The first celecoxib was released as the arthritis medicine Advil, and was approved in 1962 by the FDA, when the FDA issued warnings about high levels of prescription NSAID use in children under age 4.
